Gerrit de Veer, an aspiring writer aboard a 16th-century Dutch merchant ship, documents an ambitious expedition aimed at finding a trade route to Asia via the North Pole. However, their quest quickly descends into chaos as the vessel becomes trapped in unforgiving ice. Stranded on the desolate landscape of Nova Zembla, the crew faces brutal winter conditions, battling hunger, freezing temperatures, and polar bears.
