Susan Wokoma
Biography
Susan "Susie" Indiaba Wokoma, born on December 31, 1987, in Southwark, London, is a celebrated British actress with Nigerian heritage. She gained recognition for her roles as Raquel in the E4/Netflix series Crazyhead and Cynthia in the acclaimed show Chewing Gum. Wokoma first appeared on screen as a child participant in the 2002 CBBC program Serious Jungle. She later became involved with The National Youth Theatre, making her professional debut in the BAFTA award-winning production That Summer Day before furthering her training at RADA at the age of 19.
Her diverse television credits include roles in Phoebe Waller-Bridge's Crashing, Bluestone 42, Uncle, and Misfits, as well as in the film adaptations of Half of a Yellow Sun and The Inbetweeners 2. Wokoma's theatrical work spans prestigious venues such as the Royal Court, Bush Theatre, and the Royal National Theatre. Notably, she participated in the New York transfers of Phyllida Lloyd's all-female productions of Henry IV and Julius Caesar at St. Ann's Warehouse.
In 2016, she earned the Best Supporting Actor award at the BBC Audio Drama Awards for her role in the radio adaptation of Marie NDiaye's Three Strong Women. That same year, she was announced as a star of Crazyhead, earning the RTS Best On-Screen Performance award in 2017. Wokoma is also an accomplished writer, showcasing her talents beyond acting.
