Biography

Fyvush Finkel, originally named Philip Finkel, was a distinguished American actor hailing from New York City. Born to Jewish immigrant parents from Eastern Europe, he began his artistic journey in the vibrant Yiddish theater scene of Manhattan. His unique ability to blend humor with his singing set him apart, leading to a prolific career that spanned over three decades. Finkel made his Broadway debut in 1964, portraying Mordcha the innkeeper in the iconic original production of *Fiddler on the Roof*.

In the 1990s, Finkel transitioned to television, where he garnered significant recognition from producer David E. Kelley. He appeared in two of Kelley's acclaimed series, *Picket Fences* and *Boston Public*. His performance in *Picket Fences* earned him an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 1994. Following the cancellation of *Boston Public* in 2004, Finkel returned to his theatrical roots in New York.

He continued to perform until his retirement after the run of *New Jerusalem* in 2007. Fyvush Finkel passed away at the age of 93 in his New York home, succumbing to heart complications. His legacy lives on through his remarkable contributions to both stage and screen, celebrating a career rich in talent and dedication.
