Norman Mitchell Driver (27 August 1918 – 19 March 2001), known in the entertainment world as Norman Mitchell, was a distinguished English actor celebrated for his contributions to television, stage, and film.

Born in Sheffield, West Riding of Yorkshire, Mitchell hailed from a family with artistic and technical backgrounds; his father was a mining engineer while his mother pursued a career as a concert singer. He received his education at Carterknowle Grammar School and the University of Sheffield, which laid the foundation for his acting career. He honed his craft in repertory theatre and gained significant experience with the Royal Shakespeare Company. During World War II, he served honorably in the Royal Army Medical Corps.

Mitchell's career spanned numerous decades, during which he made a significant impact on television and film, with appearances in over sixty movies. He became a familiar face on screen, recognized for his versatility and engaging performances.

In his personal life, Mitchell was married to fellow actress Pauline Mitchell until her passing in 1992. He was a devoted father to two children, Jacqueline and Christopher Mitchell, the latter of whom was known for his role in the beloved BBC sitcom *It Ain't Half Hot Mum*.
