Biography
Isa Miranda, born on July 5, 1909, in Italy, was a prominent actress known for her remarkable international film career. Initially working as a typist, she pursued her passion for acting at a drama academy in Milan. Her journey into film began with small roles in Italian cinema before she gained widespread recognition for her portrayal of Gaby Doriot in Max Ophüls' 1934 film, *La Signora di tutti* (Everybody's Woman). This captivating performance as a glamorous yet tragic film star earned her critical acclaim and opened doors to Hollywood, where she was dubbed the "Italian Marlene Dietrich." During her time at Paramount Pictures, she starred in several notable films, including *Hotel Imperial* (1939) and *Adventure in Diamonds* (1940).
After returning to Italy following the onset of World War II, Miranda continued to thrive on stage and in film. Her role in René Clément's *The Walls of Malapaga* (1949) garnered an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and earned her the prestigious Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. She also shone in Ophüls' *La Ronde* (1950).
Her career spanned across France, Germany, and England, highlighted by appearances in television series like *The Avengers* and films such as *Siamo donne* (1953), *Summertime* (1955), and *The Night Porter* (1974). Miranda was married to director Alfredo Guarini until his passing in 1981. She passed away in Rome on July 8, 1982, leaving behind a legacy as a trailblazer in cinema.
