George Cisar

Biography

George Cisar (July 28, 1912 – June 13, 1979) was a prolific American actor, renowned for his extensive contributions to film and television over a span of two decades. With a repertoire of more than one hundred roles, Cisar was a familiar face in Hollywood, often portraying supporting characters such as policemen and bartenders.

His career took off in 1949 when he starred alongside Mike Wallace in the short-lived police drama *Stand By for Crime*. Cisar is perhaps best remembered for his role as Sgt. Theodore Mooney in the beloved sitcom *Dennis the Menace*, where he appeared in thirty-one episodes from 1960 to 1963. Interestingly, the character name was later adapted by Gale Gordon for a different role in *The Lucy Show*.

Cisar also played notable parts in other popular series, including portraying Donald Hollinger’s father in the ABC sitcom *That Girl* and Cyrus Tankersley on CBS's *The Andy Griffith Show* and its sequel, *Mayberry, R.F.D.* His film career began with an uncredited role in the 1948 drama *Call Northside 777*, followed by a credited appearance in *Johnny Holiday* (1949). His final film role was in the 1970 drama *...tick...tick...tick...*, where he played Joe the barber.

Cisar passed away in Los Angeles at the age of 66, leaving behind a legacy of memorable performances in the entertainment industry.
