Jane Wyatt
Biography
Jane Wyatt, born on August 12, 1910, in Mahwah, New Jersey, and raised in Manhattan, was a prominent American actress celebrated for her memorable roles in television and film. The daughter of Christopher Billopp Wyatt, Jr., a Wall Street banker, and Euphemia Van Rensselaer Waddington, a drama critic, Wyatt grew up in a family that embraced the Catholic faith.
Her acting career began with her film debut in 1934's *One More River*, but she gained widespread recognition for her role as the love interest in Frank Capra's *Lost Horizon* (1937). Wyatt's filmography includes notable works such as *Gentleman's Agreement*, *None but the Lonely Heart*, and *Boomerang*. However, her career faced setbacks due to her vocal opposition to Senator Joseph McCarthy and her involvement in hosting a Bolshoi Ballet performance during WWII, requested by President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Wyatt is perhaps best known for her portrayal of Margaret Anderson on the beloved series *Father Knows Best*, which aired from 1954 to 1960, earning her three Emmy Awards. She continued her acting journey with guest appearances on various shows, including *Wagon Train* and *The Alfred Hitchcock Hour*.
Married to investment broker Edgar Bethune Ward from 1935 until his passing in 2000, the couple's relationship spanned nearly 65 years. Jane Wyatt passed away on October 20, 2006, at the age of 96, leaving behind a legacy as a beloved actress. She was laid to rest at San Fernando Mission Cemetery alongside her husband.
