Biography

Pierre Arditi, born on December 1, 1944, is a celebrated French actor renowned for his performances in both film and theater. He is the sibling of fellow actress Catherine Arditi. Throughout his career, Arditi has often portrayed charming, womanizing characters reminiscent of the iconic roles played by Marcello Mastroianni.

His talent has been recognized with several prestigious accolades, including a César Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his performance in the 1987 film *Mélo*. He further garnered acclaim in 1994 when he received a César Award for Best Actor for his leading role in *Smoking/No Smoking*.

While Arditi’s primary work has centered around French cinema and stage, he also made a mark in the Anglophone world as the French voice of Christopher Reeve. He lent his voice to Reeve in the original French versions of the first three *Superman* films directed by Richard Donner and Richard Lester. This connection left a lasting impression on audiences, who were disappointed when a new voice actor replaced him for the DVD Special Edition due to additional footage. Additionally, Arditi provided the French dubbing for Reeve in the film *Deathtrap* and was the narrator for the documentary series *Untamed Africa*.

In recognition of his contributions to the arts, Arditi was honored as Chevalier of the Légion d'honneur in 2002 and was awarded Chevalier of the Ordre national du Mérite in 1994, later promoted to Officier in 2005.
