Anya
Biography
Anya Wu, born on February 17, 1976, in Taiwan, moved to the United States at the age of six, settling in New York City. Her artistic journey began when she was discovered by a record label in Taiwan, where she made a name for herself as the first female DJ in local clubs, drawing significant media interest, including attention from Hong Kong outlets.
This rising star caught the eye of director Jingle Ma, who helped her secure a contract with Golden Harvest, a prominent film production company. Although she initially missed the chance to feature in his film "Moi Moi Cha," Anya made her acting debut in "Born To Be King," the concluding chapter of the Young & Dangerous series, portraying Nanako, the wife of Jordan Chan's character. Her relocation to Hong Kong propelled her career, leading to prominent roles in various productions, including "For Bad Boys Only" and action films like "Sharp Guns" and "2002," where she showcased her action-oriented talents.
Anya's appeal transcended cinema; she became a beloved figure in magazines, advertisements, and television. In 2002, she starred in "Naked Weapon" as Kat, further solidifying her status. Her recent work includes a groundbreaking role in a stage adaptation of "Glengarry Glen Ross," where she took on a part traditionally reserved for men, and Tsui Hark's thriller "Vampire Hunters." Following the closure of Golden Harvest's talent agency, Anya returned to Taiwan, appearing in "Pink Godfather" and the local version of "Sex and the City." Ultimately, her passion for film led her to China, where she continues to thrive in co-productions, leveraging her fluency in both Chinese and English.
