Biography

Sim, born Simon Jacques Eugène Berryer on July 21, 1926, was a distinguished French comedian, actor, and writer. He gained fame as a key member of the popular radio and television show Les Grosses Têtes. His film career included notable appearances as Geriatrix in the beloved Asterix films, specifically Asterix and Obelix vs Caesar and Astérix at the Olympic Games.

Born to engineer Henri Berryer and Marie-Thérèse Bonnemazou in Paris, Sim grew up in a vibrant cinematic environment, which sparked his early interest in performance. At just eleven, he founded a comedy troupe named "Sim-Art." His talent was recognized early on when he won a funny face competition in 1939.

After the family relocated to Nantes and then Ancenis, Sim continued to hone his craft while working as a projectionist in his parents' cinema. Post-World War II, he ventured into the cabaret scene and gained recognition for his drag performances, particularly at Madame Arthur in Montmartre. His comedic flair led to collaborations with notable figures, including a comic clown act alongside Étienne Perrin.

In the 1960s, Sim expanded his repertoire by producing animated children's television and portraying characters in various sketch shows. By the 1970s, he became a familiar face on French television, engaging audiences with his humorous sketches and performances. Sim's contributions to comedy and entertainment left a lasting legacy until his passing on September 6, 2009.
