Biography

Corinne Marchand, a striking blonde, began her artistic journey as a vocalist, captivating audiences in nightclubs, operettas, and revues. Her early career also included a stint as a successful photographic model, which paved the way for her film debut as an exotic dancer in *Cadet Rousselle* (1954). After several years in supporting roles, she achieved significant recognition for her portrayal of Cléo Victoire in Agnès Varda's *Cléo from 5 to 7* (1962). In this seminal film of the French New Wave, Marchand embodied the role of a beautiful and superstitious Parisian pop singer grappling with her own mortality. Her performance remains iconic and is often hailed as a defining moment in 1960s cinema. The film featured her enchanting interpretations of Michel Legrand's songs, including "Sans Toi," "La Joyeuse," and "La Menteuse," which further enriched its emotional depth.

Despite not finding another role that matched the impact of Cléo, Marchand continued to work in notable international and French films, appearing in titles like *Nunca pasa nada* (1963), *The Hour of Truth* (1965), *Les Sultans* (1966), the Italian western *Man from Nowhere* (1966), the gritty thriller *Rider on the Rain* (1970), and the lively crime drama *Borsalino* (1970). Beyond her acting career, Marchand pursued beekeeping, a passion she embraced after completing her studies at the Charenton School of Beekeeping.
