Bernard Sanders, born on September 8, 1941, is a prominent American politician and activist currently serving as the senior United States senator from Vermont, a position he has held since 2007. Prior to his Senate career, Sanders represented Vermont's at-large congressional district in the House of Representatives from 1991 to 2007, making him the longest-serving independent in U.S. congressional history.
