He was notably featured in several beloved series, including the "Our Gang" and "Three Stooges" comedies. Bletcher's talents extended beyond live-action; he was also a prominent voice actor renowned for his unexpectedly deep and powerful baritone.
His contributions to animation include iconic roles for major studios: he voiced Black Pete and the Big Bad Wolf in Disney's "Three Little Pigs" and its sequels, Spike the Bulldog for MGM, and various characters for Warner Bros., most famously as Papa Bear in Chuck Jones' "The Three Bears," taking over the role from Mel Blanc. Bletcher appeared alongside Blanc in "Little Red Riding Rabbit," portraying another legendary wolf.
His voice resonated in other notable works, such as the menacing "Dom Del Oro," the Yaqui Indian god in the 1939 Republic serial "Zorro's Fighting Legion," and as Owl Jolson's strict father in the 1936 short "I Love to Singa." He also voiced the villainous Gas Cloud in the 1944 WWII training film "Private Snafu," where he faced off against Blanc's Private Snafu and a cameo of Bugs Bunny.
