Richard Eyer
Biography
Richard Ross Eyer, born on May 6, 1945, in Santa Monica, California, is a notable figure from the realm of child acting during the 1950s and 1960s. After his acting career, he dedicated himself to education, teaching elementary school in Bishop, California, until his retirement in 2006. He is the elder brother of Robert Eyer, who also found fame as a child actor but has since passed away.
Eyer gained recognition for his role as the teenage David "Davey" Kane in the ABC Western series *Stagecoach West* from 1960 to 1961, where he starred alongside Robert Bray and Wayne Rogers. Before this, he had established himself as a charming young star with a distinctive "clean-cut, all-American look," which helped him win various personality contests. His film career began in the early 1950s, with notable performances including the impulsive son in *The Desperate Hours* (1955) and a memorable role in William Wyler’s *Friendly Persuasion* (1956). He is perhaps best remembered in the science fiction genre for his lead role in *The Invisible Boy*, a sequel to the classic *Forbidden Planet*. His last film appearance was in 1958's *The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad*, where he portrayed Baronni the Genie.
Throughout his career, Eyer appeared in over a hundred television episodes, including shows like *Gunsmoke*, *Lassie*, and *Father Knows Best*. Reflecting on his early success, Eyer credited his mother for her pivotal role in promoting his career, noting that her encouragement led him to numerous opportunities in acting and modeling. His final acting role was in an episode of *Combat!* at the age of 21.
