Biography
Aleksandr Andreevich Petrov, born on January 25, 1989, in Pereslavl-Zalesskiy, Russia, is a distinguished actor recognized for his compelling performances in film and television. He gained acclaim for his roles in the war drama T-34 (2019), the sci-fi film Attraction (2017), and the supernatural thriller Gogol. The Beginning (2017).
Initially pursuing a degree in economics at the University of Pereslavl, Petrov found his true passion in the arts through his involvement in the KVN student comedy team and the student theater "Entreprise." His theatrical journey took a significant turn when he attended master classes at the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS). In 2008, he relocated to Moscow to study directing under L. Kheifets at GITIS. Following his graduation, he joined the Moscow Theatre "Et Cetera," where he portrayed Graziano in a production of Shakespeare's "The Merchant of Venice," directed by Robert Sturua. Subsequently, he became a part of the Yermolova Theatre, taking on the iconic role of Hamlet.
Petrov's television career began in 2010 with a minor role in Voices, but he gained prominence in 2012 with his lead role in While the Fern is Blooming. He further solidified his position in the industry with notable performances in The Method and Fartsa, where he portrayed an aspiring writer during the Soviet era. His portrayal of Nikolai Gogol in Gogol. The Beginning and the lead role in Attraction showcased his versatility. In 2020, he reprised his role in the sequel, Invasion. In recognition of his talent, Kinopoisk named him the most popular Russian actor of 2017.
