Biography
F. Murray Abraham, born on October 24, 1939, is a celebrated American actor renowned for his impactful performances in both theater and film. His career took off after he portrayed the character Antonio Salieri in the critically acclaimed film *Amadeus* (1984), a role that earned him the Academy Award for Best Actor. He has also been recognized with a Golden Globe Award and has garnered nominations for a BAFTA Award, four Primetime Emmy Awards, and a Grammy Award.
Abraham made his Broadway debut in the 1968 production of *The Man in the Glass Booth*. His remarkable stage work has been rewarded with an Obie Award for Outstanding Performance, particularly for his portrayals in Anton Chekhov’s *Uncle Vanya* (1984) and Shakespeare’s *The Merchant of Venice* (2011). He returned to Broadway in 2014 for a revival of Terrence McNally’s *It’s Only a Play*, earning a nomination for a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Play.
His filmography includes notable roles in *All the President's Men* (1976), *Scarface* (1983), *The Name of the Rose* (1986), and *The Grand Budapest Hotel* (2014), among others. On television, he was a prominent figure in the Showtime series *Homeland* (2012–2018), receiving two Primetime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Guest Actor.
