Biography

Kenneth Tsang Kong (October 5, 1935 – April 27, 2022) was a renowned Hong Kong actor whose illustrious career spanned over five decades. Born in Hong Kong to a family with roots in Zhongshan, Guangdong, Tsang pursued his education in the United States, completing high school in Texas and earning an architecture degree from the University of California, Berkeley. He returned to Hong Kong in the early 1960s but soon found his architectural work unsatisfying. His older sister, Jeanette Lin Tsui, a well-known film star, helped him establish connections in the acting industry, propelling his career forward.

Tsang made his film debut at just 16 in The Feud (1955) and followed it with a role in Who Isn't Romantic? (1956). Throughout the 1960s, he gained fame in detective films and classic kung fu movies, appearing alongside young stars like Connie Chan Po-chu and Josephine Siao. His collaboration with director John Woo began with A Better Tomorrow (1986), where he portrayed a taxi owner named Ken, leading to further roles in the sequel and other projects such as The Killer (1989) and Once a Thief (1991).

In the 1990s, Tsang also ventured into Singaporean dramas, with notable performances in The Teochew Family and The Unbeatables II. He marked his Hollywood debut in The Replacement Killers (1998) and would later appear in films like Anna and the King and Rush Hour 2. Tsang played General Moon in the James Bond film Die Another Day (2002). He was married to Taiwanese actress Chiao Chiao in 1994. Tsang's career was recognized with a Best Supporting Actor Award at the 34th Hong Kong Film Awards in 2015.
