Camille
Biography
Camille Dalmais, known simply as Camille, was born on March 10, 1978, in Paris, France. Growing up in a musically rich environment—her father Hervé Dalmais was a musician and her mother an English teacher—Camille cultivated her artistic inclinations early on. She studied ballet and became fascinated by bossa nova and American musicals, eventually attending Lycée International de Saint Germain-en-Laye, where she earned her literature baccalaureate.
At just 16, Camille debuted her original composition "Un Homme Déserté" at a wedding. Her career began to flourish in the early 2000s as she performed in Parisian jazz clubs and made her acting debut in the film *Les Morsures de l'aube*. In 2002, she signed with Virgin Records and released her first studio album, *Le Sac des Filles*.
Camille gained further recognition through her collaboration with the band Nouvelle Vague, where she lent her voice to notable tracks like "Too Drunk to Fuck" and "In a Manner of Speaking." Her 2005 album *Le Fil* showcased an innovative concept, with a continuous drone throughout, and earned a gold certification. The single “Ta Douleur” achieved international acclaim, appearing on Australia's Triple J Hottest 100.
In 2007, Camille contributed to the *Ratatouille* soundtrack with "Le Festin" and voiced Colette in the film's French version. Her subsequent album, *Music Hole*, released in April 2008, further solidified her status as a unique voice in contemporary music. Camille continues to charm audiences with her eclectic style and inventive artistry.
