Walt Disney
Biography
Walter Elias "Walt" Disney (December 5, 1901 – December 15, 1966) was a prominent American film producer, director, screenwriter, voice actor, animator, entrepreneur, entertainer, and philanthropist, recognized for his substantial impact on the entertainment industry throughout the 20th century. Alongside his brother Roy O. Disney, he co-founded Walt Disney Productions, which later evolved into one of the world's most renowned film production companies. Today, it operates under the name The Walt Disney Company, boasting annual revenues estimated at around $35 billion.
Disney is celebrated not only for his role as a film producer and showman but also for his groundbreaking contributions to animation and theme park design. He and his team developed some of the most iconic fictional characters, including Mickey Mouse, for whom Disney famously provided the original voice. Throughout his career, he was honored with four honorary Academy Awards and won twenty-two Academy Awards out of fifty-nine nominations, achieving the remarkable feat of winning four awards in a single year, a record unmatched by any other individual. Additionally, he earned seven Emmy Awards and lent his name to major theme parks such as Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort in the United States, plus international locations like Tokyo Disney, Disneyland Paris, and Disneyland Hong Kong.
Following his passing from lung cancer in Burbank, California, on December 15, 1966, construction on Walt Disney World Resort in Florida commenced the following year, with his brother Roy Disney officially opening the Magic Kingdom on October 1, 1971.
