Forrest Tucker
Biography
Forrest Meredith Tucker (February 12, 1919 – October 25, 1986) was a prominent American actor, renowned for his versatile performances in nearly 100 films and numerous television series throughout his career. Born in Plainfield, Indiana, Tucker's early life was shaped by a challenging family background, including a mother who struggled with alcoholism. His passion for performance ignited at the young age of 14 during the 1933 Chicago World's Fair, where he entertained crowds by day and sang at night.
After relocating to Washington, D.C., Tucker's talent caught the eye of Jimmy Lake, the owner of the Old Gaiety Burlesque Theater. He quickly gained recognition by winning amateur contests, which led to his role as Master of Ceremonies, although his youth eventually forced him to leave. Following high school graduation in 1938, he briefly served in the U.S. Cavalry before returning to the theater, and later, pursuing a career in film.
Tucker made his debut in the 1940 film *The Westerner*, starring alongside Gary Cooper, portraying a formidable farmer. His film career flourished, and like many of his contemporaries, he served in the Army during World War II, earning a commission as a second lieutenant.
Over the course of his life, Tucker was married four times and had three children. Despite a long battle with lung cancer, he continued to work in the industry until his health declined. He passed away just months after the release of *Thunder Run* and was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame shortly before his death, leaving a lasting legacy in the entertainment world. He was laid to rest at Forest Lawn–Hollywood Hills Cemetery.
