Biography
Cuba Mark Gooding Jr. (born January 2, 1968) is a renowned American actor celebrated for his diverse roles in film and television. He earned an Academy Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and received an Emmy nomination throughout his career.
Gooding Jr. was born in the Bronx, New York, to Shirley, a singer with the Sweethearts, and Cuba Gooding, Sr., the lead singer of the soul group The Main Ingredient. After his father's group achieved fame with "Everybody Plays the Fool" in 1972, the family relocated to Los Angeles, where they faced challenges following his father's departure. Raised by his mother, Gooding Jr. attended several high schools, serving as class president in three.
His entertainment career began as a break-dancer at the 1984 Summer Olympics. He eventually transitioned to acting, gaining fame with notable performances in films like Boyz n the Hood (1991) and Jerry Maguire (1996), the latter earning him an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. While his later projects received mixed reviews, Gooding showcased his talent in works like Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story (2009) and Red Tails (2012).
