John Steiner
Biography
John Steiner, born on January 7, 1941, in Chester, England, is a distinguished actor known for his striking presence and versatility. After honing his craft at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, he began his career with the BBC before moving on to a prominent role in Noël Coward's "Design for Living." The late 1960s marked a turning point for Steiner when he ventured into the Italian film scene, landing a part in the spaghetti western "Tepepa." This role propelled him into a successful career in Italy, where he became renowned for portraying villains in numerous Italian B-movies and exploitation films. His work spanned various genres, including horror and action, and he gained recognition from renowned Italian director Tinto Brass, featuring in the controversial film "Salon Kitty" alongside Ingrid Thulin and Helmut Berger.
Steiner remained a sought-after actor until the late 1980s, after which he stepped back from the industry in 1991 and transitioned to a career in real estate in California. In the late 1990s, interest in his work surged with the launch of "John Steiner," a zine by Cranston McMillan's Also Press, dedicated to celebrating his contributions to film, TV, and theater. This publication ran until 2005 and reignited fan interest in Steiner's Italian filmography. Recently, he has participated in DVD extras and interviews, reflecting on his illustrious career while enjoying a quiet retirement.
