Biography
Kim Jong Un, born on January 8, 1983, is a prominent North Korean political figure who has served as the Supreme Leader of North Korea since 2011. He has also held the position of Chairman of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) since 2012. As the youngest son of Kim Jong Il, who governed North Korea as its second President from 1994 until his death in 2011, Kim Jong Un comes from a lineage of leadership in the country. He is the grandson of Kim Il Sung, the founding leader and first President of North Korea, who held power from the nation's inception in 1948 until his passing in 1994. Under Kim Jong Un's rule, North Korea has continued to navigate complex political landscapes, with a focus on military development and nuclear capabilities, alongside efforts to bolster the nation's economy. His leadership style has been characterized by significant purges within the government and a tightly controlled media environment, reflecting his desire to maintain a firm grip on power. Throughout his tenure, Kim has engaged in both diplomatic outreach and confrontational rhetoric, particularly concerning relations with the United States and South Korea.
