Biography

John Michael Turturro, born on February 28, 1957, is a distinguished American-Italian actor, writer, and filmmaker celebrated for his impactful contributions to independent cinema. With a remarkable filmography exceeding sixty titles, Turturro has established enduring collaborations with renowned directors such as the Coen brothers, Adam Sandler, and Spike Lee.

His on-screen journey began in the early 1980s, gaining critical acclaim with the independent feature Five Corners in 1987. Turturro's rise to mainstream prominence was solidified through pivotal roles in Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing (1989) and the Coen brothers’ Miller's Crossing (1990) and Barton Fink (1991), the latter earning him the Best Actor accolade at the Cannes Film Festival. His diverse portfolio includes memorable characters like Herb Stempel in Quiz Show (1994), the eccentric Jesus Quintana in The Big Lebowski (1998) and its spin-off The Jesus Rolls (2020), as well as Pete Hogwallop in O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000). He also portrayed Seymour Simmons in the Transformers franchise and is set to appear as Carmine Falcone in the upcoming Batman film.
