Jerry Lawler
Biography
Jerry O'Neil Lawler, famously known as Jerry "The King" Lawler, is a distinguished American professional wrestler and color commentator, currently affiliated with WWE. Since 1992, Lawler has made a significant impact in the wrestling world, although he has not taken on a full-time commentary role since April 2020. Before his tenure with WWE, he competed across various wrestling territories, amassing an impressive collection of championships, including multiple World Heavyweight titles. Lawler is celebrated for his reigns as a one-time AWA World Heavyweight Champion and a three-time WCWA World Heavyweight Champion, totaling four world championships across both promotions.
One of his most notable achievements was unifying the AWA and WCWA titles by defeating Kerry Von Erich at AWA Super Clash III, which led to the creation of the USWA Unified World Heavyweight Championship—a title he captured an astounding 28 times. Lawler's legacy also includes a famous rivalry with comedian Andy Kaufman, which gained further recognition when he portrayed himself in the 1999 film "Man on the Moon." Interestingly, despite his remarkable accomplishments, Lawler has never won a championship in WWE, primarily serving as a commentator while occasionally wrestling. In recognition of his contributions to the sport, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007, solidifying his status as a legend in professional wrestling.
