Biography
Allen Kelsey Grammer, born on February 21, 1955, is a distinguished American actor, producer, and singer. He is best recognized for his iconic portrayal of Dr. Frasier Crane on the beloved NBC sitcom Cheers, which aired from 1984 to 1993, and its successful spin-off, Frasier, from 1993 to 2004, with a revival airing from 2023 to 2024. This remarkable role solidifies Grammer's status as one of the longest-serving characters in primetime television history, spanning over two decades. His exceptional talent has earned him multiple awards, including six Emmy Awards, three Golden Globe Awards, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and a Tony Award.
Grammer honed his craft at prestigious institutions like Juilliard and the Old Globe Theatre, making his professional debut as Lennox in the 1981 Broadway revival of Macbeth. He subsequently took on notable roles, including Cassio in Othello alongside Christopher Plummer and James Earl Jones, and starred in the original off-Broadway production of Stephen Sondheim's Sunday in the Park with George. His theatrical repertoire includes leading roles in productions like Sweeney Todd and My Fair Lady.
In film, Grammer is celebrated for his portrayal of Dr. Hank McCoy, a.k.a. Beast, in the X-Men series, along with roles in Down Periscope and The Pentagon Wars. He has also lent his voice to characters in animated classics such as Anastasia and Toy Story 2, while making guest appearances on popular sitcoms like 30 Rock and Modern Family. Notably, he received a Golden Globe for Best Actor for his role as a corrupt mayor in the political drama Boss.
