Emile Meyer
Biography
Emile Meyer, born on August 18, 1910, in New Orleans, was a prominent American actor best known for his portrayal of tough, authoritative figures in Hollywood films during the 1950s. His performances often graced the genres of westerns and thrillers, leaving a lasting impression on audiences. Notable roles include Ryker in the classic Western *Shane* (1953), Father Dupree in Stanley Kubrick's *Paths of Glory* (1957), and a corrupt police officer in *Sweet Smell of Success* (1957). He also made an appearance in the 1961 television series *The Asphalt Jungle*.
Meyer had a diverse television career, featuring in various guest roles, including an episode of John Payne's *The Restless Gun*. He showcased his versatility as a stubborn juror in the 1957 *Maverick* episode titled "Rope of Cards," opposite James Garner. His guest appearance in *The Restless Gun* episode "Man and Boy" was filmed at the Iverson Movie Ranch in Chatsworth, California.
Meyer continued to act into the late 1970s, with his final film role in *The Legend of Frank Woods* (1977). He passed away on March 19, 1987, leaving behind a legacy of memorable characters that enriched the American film landscape.
