Rinko Kikuchi, originally named Yuriko Kikuchi, was born on January 6, 1981, and has made a significant mark as a Japanese actress. Notably, she achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Japanese actress in half a century to receive an Academy Award nomination. Her exceptional performance in the film "Babel" (2006) earned her this prestigious recognition, making her the only living female Japanese nominee in the acting categories today. The previous nominee, Miyoshi Umeki, was honored with the Best Supporting Actress award in 1957 for her role in "Sayonara."
