Biography

Yoshihiro Katō, originally known as Zenpaku Kato, was a prominent Japanese actor born on October 7, 1958, in Akita Prefecture. Affiliated with SAI Production, Katō stood at 174 cm and was known for his artistic talent in illustration, as well as his deep appreciation for music. He completed his education at Akita Prefectural Yuri Technical High School.

Katō’s acting career began with the stage production "Shitaya Mannencho Monogatari," directed by the esteemed Yukio Ninagawa. He gained recognition for his compelling portrayals of complex antagonists, most notably as a stringent physical education teacher in the 1983 film "Kazoku Geemu" (Family Game), where he meticulously controlled students' paths to their desired high schools. Additionally, he delivered a memorable performance as Mr. Sugimoto in the 1992 television drama "Ai to Iu Na no Moto ni" (Under the Name of Love), where he depicted a department head notorious for his oppressive management style.

Throughout his diverse career in film, television, and theater, Kato left a lasting impact with his unique performances. Tragically, on April 27, 2007, he passed away at the age of 48, taking his own life in a park in Shibuya, Tokyo. His death was a profound loss to the acting community, eliciting heartfelt tributes from peers such as Toshi Kazawa, Yoji Tanaka, and Mako Maekawa, who expressed their sorrow and condolences.
