Akemi Negishi (根岸明美 Negishi Akemi, born on March 26, 1934, in Tokyo, Japan – passed away on March 11, 2008, at the age of 73 in Kawasaki, Kanagawa, Japan) was a prominent Japanese actress.
Negishi's journey in the film industry began in 1953 when she was discovered during an audition for Josef von Sternberg's adaptation of the Queen of Anatahan incident. She landed the leading role in the film "Anatahan," marking her debut. Following this, she established a successful career in both film and television, captivating audiences with her enchanting presence and exceptional acting skills. Renowned director Ishirō Honda acknowledged that her distinctive charm was well-suited to the themes of his films.
Sadly, Akemi Negishi succumbed to ovarian cancer, passing away in a hospital in Kawasaki City on March 11, 2008. She was 73 years old at the time of her death, leaving behind a legacy as a talented actress who made a significant impact on Japanese cinema.
