Biography

V, originally known as Eve Ensler, was born on May 25, 1953, and is a prominent American playwright, author, performer, feminist, and activist. She gained widespread acclaim for her groundbreaking play, The Vagina Monologues, which Charles Isherwood of The New York Times hailed in 2006 as "probably the most important piece of political theater of the last decade."

In recognition of her significant contributions to humanitarian causes, V received the Isabelle Stevenson Award at the 65th Tony Awards in 2011. This honor is bestowed upon individuals in the theater community who dedicate their time and expertise to charitable organizations. V was acknowledged for founding the V-Day movement, a non-profit initiative aimed at raising awareness and funds to combat violence against women, gender-expansive individuals, and environmental issues.

Beyond her theatrical work, V contributes to The Guardian and has appeared in various films, including V-Day’s Until the Violence Stops, the PBS documentary What I Want My Words to Do to You, and the Netflix documentary City of Joy.
