Biography

Nancy Anne Allen, born on June 24, 1950, is a distinguished American actress known for her impactful roles in films directed by Brian De Palma during the late 1970s and early 1980s. She received notable recognition, including a nomination for a Golden Globe Award and three Saturn Award nominations, showcasing her talent in the film industry.

Raised in the Bronx as the daughter of a New York City police lieutenant, Allen initially pursued a career in dance while attending the High School of Performing Arts. However, in her early twenties, she redirected her ambitions toward acting, moving to Los Angeles to carve out a niche in the film world. She gained her first major role as Chris Hargensen in De Palma's chilling adaptation of Carrie (1976). This success led to a lead role in Robert Zemeckis's comedy I Wanna Hold Your Hand (1978) and a supporting role in Steven Spielberg's 1941 (1979).

In 1979, Allen married De Palma, and her performance as a murder-witnessing prostitute in Dressed to Kill (1980) brought her a Golden Globe nomination for New Star of the Year. She continued to collaborate with De Palma, appearing in Blow Out (1981) among other films. The couple divorced in 1984.

Allen's later work includes significant roles in science fiction classics such as RoboCop (1987), where she portrayed Anne Lewis, and sequels that followed. After stepping back from acting in 2008, she became actively involved in cancer support initiatives, notably serving as the executive director of the weSPARK Cancer Support Center in Los Angeles, an organization founded by her late friend Wendie Jo Sperber.
