Ray Brooks
Biography
Ray Brooks was a distinguished British actor renowned for his memorable voice work as the narrator in the beloved children’s animated series Mr Benn. His versatility on screen was showcased in notable films such as The Knack...And How To Get It, Daleks - Invasion Earth: 2150AD, and the poignant drama Cathy Come Home. Brooks also made his mark on television with significant roles in series like Big Deal and Growing Pains.
In his later career, he gained widespread recognition for portraying Joe Macer, the complex husband and murderer of the iconic character Pauline Fowler, in the long-running BBC soap opera EastEnders. Beyond his acting, Brooks was an accomplished author, having penned several books, including his own autobiography, which offered insights into his life and career.
Sadly, Ray Brooks passed away at the age of 86 on 9th August 2025, after a brief illness. In his final years, he bravely faced the challenges of dementia. His contributions to the entertainment industry, particularly in children's programming and British soap operas, left a lasting legacy, and he is fondly remembered by fans and peers alike for his talent and dedication to his craft.
