Audrey Hepburn
Biography
Audrey Hepburn, born Audrey Kathleen Ruston, was a celebrated actress and dedicated humanitarian whose influence extended far beyond the silver screen. Recognized as a film and fashion icon, she is remembered as the third-greatest female screen legend of Classical Hollywood by the American Film Institute and holds a place in the International Best Dressed List Hall of Fame.
Hepburn was born in Ixelles, Brussels, into an aristocratic family and spent her formative years across Belgium, England, and the Netherlands. Her passion for ballet began in 1945 under Sonia Gaskell in Amsterdam and continued with Marie Rambert in London. She ventured into performing arts as a chorus girl in West End musicals, gradually making appearances in films. Her breakthrough came in 1953 with the romantic comedy "Roman Holiday," where she starred alongside Gregory Peck, earning her an Oscar, a Golden Globe, and a BAFTA for a single performance—a first for any actress. Her achievements that year also included a Tony Award for her role in "Ondine."
Hepburn's illustrious filmography includes classics like "Sabrina" (1954), "Funny Face" (1957), "The Nun's Story" (1959), "Breakfast at Tiffany's" (1961), "Charade" (1963), and "My Fair Lady" (1964). Her performance in "Wait Until Dark" (1967) garnered further Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations. After a brief hiatus, she made her final appearances in works such as "Robin and Marian" (1976) and the acclaimed documentary series "Gardens of the World" (1990), winning a Primetime Emmy Award.
Hepburn's legacy includes three BAFTA Awards for Best British Actress, the BAFTA Lifetime Achievement Award, the Golden Globe Cecil B. DeMille Award, and the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award. She is among the rare individuals to have achieved the EGOT status—winning an Emmy, Grammy
