Biography
Jacklyn Wu Chien-Lien, known in Mandarin as 吳倩蓮 and occasionally spelled as Jacqueline Wu Chien-Lien, was born on July 3, 1968, in Taiwan. She is a celebrated actress and singer, particularly recognized in the West for her performance in Ang Lee's critically acclaimed film, *Eat Drink Man Woman* (1994), where she portrayed one of three sisters in a complex family dynamic.
Wu's acting journey began when she was cast by renowned director Johnnie To alongside Andy Lau in the romantic drama *A Moment of Romance* (1990), which marked her entrance into the film industry. However, it was her role in Ann Hui's *Eighteen Springs* (1997) that truly showcased her talent, earning her a nomination for Best Actress at the Hong Kong Film Awards, as well as winning the Best Actress Award from the Hong Kong Film Critics Society.
In addition to her film work, Jacklyn Wu has appeared in numerous television series across Taiwan, China, and Singapore, demonstrating her versatility as an actress. Although her appearances have become less frequent since the early 2000s, her last notable film role was in the 2004 Hong Kong production *Jiang Hu*.
