M.C. Gainey

Biography

Mike Connor Gainey, known as M.C. Gainey, was born on January 18, 1948, and is an American actor recognized for his notable mustache, towering height of 6'2½", and intimidating presence. These characteristics have often led him to portray characters from the Southern and Southwestern regions, including thugs and criminals. Before embarking on his acting career, Gainey studied at the University of Southern Mississippi and briefly worked as an undertaker's apprentice. His passion for acting led him to the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco in the early 1970s, where he trained alongside Ken Hixon.

Gainey made his feature film debut in 1981 with the musical "Pennies from Heaven," starring Steve Martin. Since then, he has accumulated an extensive filmography, appearing in more than 50 films and television movies, such as "Con Air," "The Mighty Ducks," "Terminator 3," and "The Dukes of Hazzard." He also played a significant role in the short-lived series "Against the Law" and has guest-starred on over 40 television programs, including iconic shows like "The Dukes of Hazzard," "CSI," and "Lost," where he portrayed Tom Friendly in 20 episodes.

In 2010, Gainey took on the role of Bo Crowder in the FX series "Justified," and he attended the 2007 Emmy Awards alongside the show's creators. His film work in 2007 included titles like "Mr. Woodcock" and "Wild Hogs," and he lent his voice to Captain of the Palace Guard in the animated feature "Tangled." Additionally, he starred as Kurtz/The Wizard in the unique film "Apocalypse Oz," which creatively utilized dialogue from "Apocalypse Now" and "The Wizard of Oz."
