Fay Holden, originally named Dorothy Fay Hammerton, was born on September 26, 1893, in Birmingham, England, and later became a prominent actress in the United States. Early in her career, she was known by the stage name Gaby Fay. Over the course of her career, which spanned from 1935 to 1958, she appeared in a remarkable 46 films.

Holden is perhaps best remembered for her role as Emily Hardy, the beloved mother of Mickey Rooney's character in the iconic MGM Andy Hardy film series. This series, which resonated with audiences during its time, solidified her place in classic American cinema.
