Biography

Rolfe Sedan (January 20, 1896 – September 15, 1982) was a distinguished American character actor, renowned for his memorable portrayals in various minor roles, often without credit. His journey in entertainment began in the vibrant world of nightclubs and vaudeville, leading him to the East Coast theater scene. Sedan made his Broadway debut in 1916 and transitioned to film with his first appearance in a Metro Pictures Corporation production in 1921.

Throughout his prolific career, Sedan became a familiar face to movie enthusiasts, particularly for his role as the hotel manager in the classic film Ninotchka (1939), featuring the iconic Greta Garbo. That same year, he was also uncredited as the Emerald City's Balloon Ascensionist in the beloved The Wizard of Oz. Returning to Broadway, he showcased his versatility in numerous productions during the early 1940s. In the 1950s, Sedan shifted to television, where he gained prominence through guest appearances, notably on The Jack Benny Show.

He is perhaps best recognized for his recurring character as the beleaguered mail carrier Mr. Beasley on The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show, appearing in 25 episodes, and as Mr. Briggs on The Addams Family. His film career continued with a notable role as the train conductor in Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein (1974). Rolfe Sedan's career spanned over six decades, showcasing his enduring talent and adaptability in the entertainment industry.
