Anjanette Comer
Biography
Anjanette Comer, born on August 7, 1939, in Dawson, Texas, is a distinguished American actress known for her captivating performances across television and film. The daughter of Rufus Franklin and Nola (Dell) Comer, Anjanette made her first significant mark in entertainment with a guest role in a 1963 episode of the classic series Gunsmoke. Throughout the 1960s, she showcased her talent in popular dramas such as Dr. Kildare and Bonanza.
Her cinematic journey began with her role as the female lead in the 1964 comedy Quick, Before It Melts, followed by an unforgettable performance in the 1965 dark comedy The Loved One, where she portrayed a seductive mortician, delivering the memorable line about funeral arrangements: "Inhumement, entombment, inurnment, immurement? Some people just lately have preferred ensarcophagusment."
Although she was originally cast alongside Michael Caine in Funeral In Berlin, illness forced her replacement. Nevertheless, Comer starred opposite Marlon Brando and John Saxon in The Appaloosa (1966), where she played a Mexican peasant girl, a role she reprised in the 1968 film Guns for San Sebastian. She also appeared in the 1967 golf-themed movie Banning alongside Robert Wagner and Jill St. John.
After her role as Ruth in the 1970 adaptation of John Updike's Rabbit, Run, Comer stepped back from the spotlight, attributing this to her personal life. Her more recent work includes Fire Sale (1977) and the TV movie The Long Summer of George Adams (1983). With a career spanning over four decades and more than 55 productions, Anjanette Comer continues to leave her mark on the industry.
