Biography
Raymond Hart Massey (August 30, 1896 – July 29, 1983) was a distinguished Canadian actor celebrated for his powerful voice and theatrical background. He gained significant recognition for his portrayal of Abraham Lincoln in the play Abe Lincoln in Illinois (1940), a performance that earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. Massey later reprised this iconic role on television and in the epic film How the West Was Won (1962).
His impressive career spanned several decades and included a variety of memorable performances. Notably, he took on the role of Dr. Gillespie in the NBC series Dr. Kildare from 1961 to 1966, showcasing his talent in television. Additionally, he portrayed pivotal characters such as John Brown in the film Santa Fe Trail (1940) and Abraham Farlan in A Matter of Life and Death (1946). In 1944, he delighted audiences with his comedic turn as Jonathan Brewster in the classic play Arsenic and Old Lace. Massey's versatility and dedication to his craft made him a prominent figure in both film and theater, leaving a lasting legacy in the entertainment industry.
