Biography

Hiroko Yakushimaru began her illustrious career after successfully auditioning for a film produced by Haruki Kadokawa. In her early years, she emerged alongside fellow teen idols Tomoyo Harada and Noriko Watanabe, collectively known as one of the "Kadokawa Sannin-musume."

Yakushimaru made her film debut in 1978 with "Never Give Up." However, it was her role in the 1981 cult classic "Sailor Suit and Machine Gun" that catapulted her to fame. In this film, she not only starred but also recorded the iconic theme song, which soared to No. 1 on the Oricon charts in late 1981, maintaining its position until January 18, 1982.

Throughout the 1980s, Yakushimaru established herself as a successful actress and pop singer, releasing numerous hits and captivating audiences with her performances. Her dual career as a prolific recording artist flourished until she married Kōji Tamaki, the frontman of the popular band Anzen Chitai. Despite the shift in her focus, her contributions to the entertainment industry remain cherished, and she continues to be remembered as a significant figure in Japanese pop culture.
