Karl Markovics
Biography
Karl Markovics, born on August 29, 1963, is a renowned Austrian actor celebrated for his compelling performances on both screen and stage. He gained international recognition for his portrayal of Salomon Sorowitsch in Stefan Ruzowitzky's 2007 film, The Counterfeiters, which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film that year. Before this landmark role, Markovics showcased his talent in the acclaimed Austrian black comedy Komm, süßer Tod (2001) and portrayed the far-right terrorist Franz Fuchs in the 2007 television film Franz Fuchs - Ein Patriot. He also appeared in the popular police drama series Inspector Rex, where his character inspired the spin-off series Stockinger.
Beyond his film and television work, Markovics is an active stage actor. In April 2010, he took on the non-singing role of Samiel in Ruzowitzky's inaugural opera production, Der Freischütz, at Vienna's prestigious Theater an der Wien. With a diverse body of work that spans over two decades, Markovics continues to be a significant figure in the Austrian entertainment industry, known for his versatility and depth as an actor.
