Alan LaVern Bean (March 15, 1932 – May 26, 2018) was a distinguished American naval officer, aviator, aeronautical engineer, test pilot, and accomplished painter. In 1963, he joined NASA as a member of Astronaut Group 3, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey in space exploration. Bean earned his place in history as the fourth individual to set foot on the lunar surface during the Apollo 12 mission in November 1969.

His tenure at NASA was marked by significant contributions to space missions, including serving as the lunar module pilot for Apollo 12 and later as commander of the Skylab 3 mission in 1973, where he played a crucial role in scientific research aboard the first American space station.
