Biography

Claude Brasseur, originally named Claude Pierre Espinasse, was born in Neuilly-sur-Seine and hailed from a prominent artistic lineage, being the son of actor Pierre Brasseur and actress Odette Joyeux. He also had the distinction of being Ernest Hemingway's godson and was the father of actor Alexandre Brasseur.

In addition to his acting career, Brasseur was an accomplished sportsman, representing France in bobsleigh during the 1960s. He also showcased his adventurous spirit as a co-pilot for Jacky Ickx in the prestigious Paris-Dakar Rally.

Brasseur's acting journey spanned over six decades, during which he featured in approximately 150 film and television projects, leaving an indelible mark on French cinema. Notably, he portrayed Arthur in Jean-Luc Godard's iconic film Bande à part (1964) and took on the lead role in the early 1970s crime series The New Adventures of Vidocq. His performances in the beloved comedies La Boum (1980) and La Boum 2 (1982), where he played the father of Sophie Marceau's character, achieved significant commercial success.

Claude Brasseur passed away on December 22, 2020, at the age of 84, leaving behind a rich legacy in both film and television, along with a remarkable story that intertwined the worlds of arts and sports.
