Walter Kingsford
Biography
Walter Kingsford, originally named Walter Pearce, was a prominent British actor born on September 20, 1882, and he passed away on February 7, 1958. His acting journey began on the London stage, where he quickly made a name for himself. Kingsford also enjoyed a successful career on Broadway, featuring in productions such as the 1912 American premiere of George Bernard Shaw's "Fanny's First Play," and extending his talents to the 1944 musical "Song of Norway."
In the early 1920s, Kingsford was actively involved with the Henry Jewett Players, showcasing his theatrical prowess. Later on, he ventured to Hollywood, California, where he became known for his strong supporting roles in films. Kingsford was particularly adept at portraying authority figures, including noblemen, doctors, police inspectors, and lawyers. His most notable performance was as the haughty Dr. P. Walter Carew, the head of a hospital, in the beloved "Dr. Kildare" and "Dr. Gillespie" film series.
In the 1950s, Kingsford transitioned to television, where he appeared in various programs, including "TV Reader's Digest," "Command Performance," and "Science Fiction Theatre." His contributions to stage, film, and television mark him as a versatile actor whose work continues to be remembered.
