Walter Reed
Biography
Walter Reed, originally named Walter Reed Smith, was an accomplished American actor known for his work on stage, film, and television. He was born in 1916 in Fort Ward, Washington. Reed began his career on Broadway before transitioning to the silver screen in 1941, where he garnered attention through a series of films produced by RKO Radio Pictures. Notably, he took over the role of the Spitfire's husband in the latter two installments of the Mexican Spitfire comedy series, succeeding Buddy Rogers. One of Reed’s standout performances came in the western film *Seven Men from Now*, where he portrayed the timid husband of Gail Russell.
In 1951, Reed appeared in *Superman and the Mole Men*, marking his involvement in the first-ever Superman theatrical feature. That same year, he starred in two film serials for Republic Pictures, where his resemblance to former leading man Ralph Byrd allowed the studio to seamlessly incorporate archival footage of Byrd into Reed's new scenes. Although Republic sought to cast him in more serials, Reed opted to steer clear of being stereotyped as a serial actor.
Over the course of his career, Walter Reed appeared in approximately 90 films and various television shows, including the popular series *The Restless Gun* featuring John Payne. In the late 1960s, he made a significant career shift, transitioning to a successful career as a real estate investor and broker in Santa Cruz, California.
