Charles Arnt
Biography
Charles Arnt (August 20, 1906 – August 6, 1990) was an American actor renowned for his work in film from 1933 until 1962.
Born in Michigan City, Indiana, Arnt was the son of a banker. He completed his education at Phillips Academy and later attended Princeton University, where he played a pivotal role in establishing the University Playes and served as the president of the Princeton Triangle Club, a theatrical organization. Following his graduation, he initially pursued a career in banking.
In the early 1930s, Arnt became involved with the University Repertory Theater in Maryland. He also graced the Broadway stage with performances in productions such as Carry Nation (1932), Three Waltzes (1937), and Knickerbocker Holiday (1938).
Over the course of his career, Arnt established himself as a versatile character actor, appearing in more than 200 films.
After retiring from acting in 1962, he shifted his focus to agriculture, engaging in the importation and breeding of Charolais cattle on his ranch in Washington state.
Arnt passed away on Orcas Island, Washington, due to pancreatic and liver cancer. He is survived by his wife, two sons, a daughter, and four grandchildren.
