Biography
Chloë Stevens Sevigny (pronounced /ˈsɛvəni/ SEV-ən-ee; born November 18, 1974) is a distinguished American actress celebrated for her roles in independent cinema, frequently featured in provocative or avant-garde films. Her impressive body of work has garnered her numerous awards, including a Golden Globe and an Academy Award nomination.
Following her high school graduation, Sevigny embarked on a modeling career and appeared in music videos for bands like Sonic Youth and The Lemonheads, which helped establish her as an “it girl.” In 1995, she made her cinematic debut in Kids, quickly becoming a leading figure in the indie film landscape throughout the late 1990s, with notable performances in films such as Trees Lounge (1996). Sevigny gained significant attention for her role as Lana Tisdel in the acclaimed drama Boys Don't Cry (1999), earning her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
In the 2000s, she took on supporting roles in various indie features, including American Psycho (2000), Demonlover (2002), Party Monster, and Dogville (both 2003), as well as The Brown Bunny (2004), which sparked controversy due to its explicit content. From 2006 to 2011, she starred as Nicolette Grant in HBO's Big Love, winning a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in 2010. Sevigny has also appeared in mainstream films such as David Fincher's Zodiac (2007) and has been involved in several television projects, including Hit & Miss (2012) and American Horror Story.
