Seu Jorge, born Jorge Mário da Silva on June 8, 1970, is a celebrated Brazilian musician, singer-songwriter, and actor. Growing up in the favela of Belford Roxo, located in the Baixada Fluminense area of Rio de Janeiro, he has become a prominent figure in the Brazilian music scene, recognized for revitalizing traditional pop samba. Influenced by the sounds of samba schools and the American soul icon Stevie Wonder, Seu Jorge blends diverse musical elements to create his unique style.
In addition to his musical career, Seu Jorge has made a significant impact in film, notably as an actor and soundtrack composer. He gained widespread recognition for his role as Mané Galinha in the critically acclaimed movie "City of God." He also appeared as Pelé Dos Santos in Wes Anderson’s whimsical film "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou," where he contributed greatly to the soundtrack, delivering captivating Portuguese-language renditions of David Bowie’s timeless classics.
