Biography
Laura Carmichael is a talented British actress known for her captivating performances on both television and film. She gained widespread recognition for her portrayal of Lady Edith Crawley in the acclaimed period drama series Downton Abbey, which aired on ITV in the UK and PBS in the US. Her career also includes notable roles in the 2016 crime drama Marcella and the feature film A United Kingdom, released the same year.
In addition to her screen work, Carmichael is an active member of The Fitzrovia Radio Hour, a company renowned for its innovative radio plays and performances.
Born in Southampton, England, Carmichael is the middle child among three sisters. Her eldest sister, Amy, is involved in the tech industry, working at a software start-up, while her younger sister, Olivia, dedicates her efforts to charity fundraising for the NHS.
Carmichael’s educational journey began at Shirley Junior School, followed by The Mountbatten School and Peter Symonds College. She pursued her passion for acting at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, graduating in 2007. Following her studies, she spent two years juggling various odd jobs, such as a teaching assistant, receptionist, and nanny, all while attending auditions at smaller fringe theaters, laying the groundwork for her successful career in the arts.
